One Rifle set for Season.

Well I took my finalized load data for my 30-06 Workhorse.. (Hmm I think it just named itself)
Now This is the current load I'm using. I accept no responsibility for the information I'm posting, as always start out from a manual and work your way up, Don't sue me I haven't any money.. That aside,
IMR 4895 with 46.3 Grains seems to be the way to go. Its to the  bottom of the loading, and I had good groups with 46.2 and 46.4 grains, So I went with the middle. CCI #200 Large Rifle primers, and topped off with a Nosler E tip 150 grain pill. This rifle seems to love the polymer tipped projectiles, its always shot great with ballistic tips, but I found that their performance to be somewhat spotty.
Now every deer that I have shot with them with one exception has gone down rather swiftly, I don't enjoy how the Ballistic tips have shattered apart once inside. While thats effective for varmints and takes a deer down, I want something that holds together a bit better. Hitting a deer in the front shoulders shouldn't mean that I'm pulling copper bits out of the rear quarters. The E Tip I'm shooting this year is a solid copper projectile so I'm hoping there is no outer jacket to separate and splinter from a lead core.
50 rounds later I have a year or two of ammunition and at least one rifle complete, so even if the 300 WSM doesn't get returned in time, Ill have the Workhorse ready, and one or two others as backups.

Worms Reloaded from Steam

Well, having played the newest version of worms a couple days now I feel I can comment on it a bit.
For those of you eight bit color game age players, Worms was the mobile version of Scorch. (at least I think that was the game, firing tanks and such)
Really The game is pretty much the same as it was twelve years ago or whenever it was released. Some new wrinkles and options with it to be sure but the play style is essentially the same. Not that this is a bad thing with this game, you know exactly what your getting. And its simplistic fun. Not a bad 15 dollars spent on this one.

Another offical year older.

Well, its that time of the year again, having spun another circle around the sun.

While this year is tracking to be a bit of a .. well normal birthday, Bit alone, somewhat forgotten at least as far as those things go.

More than anything else its giving me time to reflect and look back at where I have been and where I have come from, and most importantly what I have learned.

One of the things that seems very bizarre to me is the states that have "high" capacity magazine laws in place, banning or making possession of more than ten rounds (Generally anyway) illegal, a felony as far as I know.
The thing that strikes me with that is to make owning, at least semi automatics so annoying or difficult that people will stop doing so. Some states take this further with having approved weapon types, or pistols which is another smoke and mirrors sort of situation. While one could make the argument that most self defence shoots or what have you do not take more than ten rounds, I find this to be a particularly troubling double standard that lawmakers and their ilk put in place. I can't think of a police issued or approved firearm, at least a primary carry item that is magazine fed that has a capacity of ten rounds or less, (Correct me if I'm wrong anyone? I don't mean someone carrying a revolver or a small .380 type of pistol) aside from perhaps the departments that allow a .45 single stack 1911 style firearm. And generally speaking those are pretty uncommon. Now I ask you, if self defense shoots are limited to ten rounds or less, why do the police have these weapons that hold often times far more than a piddly ten rounds? What makes a police officer need those extra rounds any more than anyone else? The answer is absolutely nothing. Making a GVT entity of any sort exempt from the rules put down to the citizens is all to common, but it should not be tolerated. If they need this object, or device to possibly combat someone then I need it too.

There are states that take this even further by limiting "types" of firearms, and making manufacturers meet safety regulations, put forth by the GVT, after all we wouldn't want a unsafe pistol getting out there right? Change the paint job on a pistol from black, to lets say, Olive Drab Green and that pistol is now a totally new firearm and needs further approval? Well lets take a look at this one too then.
Aside from it making it just difficult for people to purchase a firearm (grandfather clauses are another story) its using the GVT to regulate a business or product out of existence. These states that have these in place are betting that no one or very few companies will put forth the effort to meet these stringent rules and requirements. Make sure this pistol is safe? Isn't there already a federal law, and most states have additional laws regarding leaving a weapon in the access of children? As far as the weapon operating and being safe to shoot, I can promise you that If I pick up a new weapon and I fire it and the damned thing blows up and injures me with factory ammunition I will be able to sue either the ammunition company or the firearm company if their products were defective. I don't need the gvt to okay a pistol or rifle other than following the letter of the law and supporting me if one of those items was defective and the company did not though normal recourse make matters right.

Then there are the cities, like Madison, Madtown itself that don't allow the big scary uber powerful super killing machine evil black rifle types to be sold in them to someone that .. well walks in to a store, gets a background check and walks out with it. Because yes you tardlings in madtown, one of the tiny percentages of criminals that will use one of those instead of say, something easily concealed like a pistol.. they will never, ever, ever ever break a law and break one of those rifles in right? Or not find a way to get one from out side the city. But the good news is that the idiots hearts and minds are safe from something they don't like the thought of.

Coming out to support Mark Neumann for the Primarys.

After careful consideration of the matters, looking at both of the republican candidates records I'm coming out to support Mark Neumann. I think that he is less of a career politician than Scott Walker, more associated with areas outside of Milwaukee, and damn it, quite frankly Scott Walker has voted against the concealed carry attempts that have been put forth before.
http://markforgov.com/

So much for the lead ban.

Well seems that the EPA in record time, particularly for a gvt entity responded to widespread criticism and grass roots activism to shut down the ban on lead based ammunition. The context of how they claimed they would not regulate this was laughable, as if they were the reasonable ones in this. It strikes me as an answer they already may have had lined up to begin with, they were just allowing someone to test the waters for them.

Though I find it particularly funny this happened in the midst of the democrats looking very out of favor in the spectrum of this political cycle, a total reversal on 08 and 06. Seems that everything they said was wrong was fine and every fix they have had for something has totally pissed people off. Myself included I'll admit.

Sadly the Republicans are to blame for this cycle period, most of them having participated with also ineffective policy's. It would be nice to see them actually come up with some sort of time line of what they are going to actually do, or repeal or rebuild.

Healthcare bill is a good place to start. Yep. Shit's expensive as hell, and so is Insurance. How about you guys cobble together some reform on the industry and how you guys have set up state monopolies on the insurance?
Why the hell cant I buy a policy from another state that may be cheaper, or why cant my possible employer? Gvt run health care may be great for some people some of the time but if its anything like the VA's system in place now it is a paperwork nightmare and a upcoming disaster.

While I'm a Libertarian at heart I tend to side with the Republicans due to the lesser of evils. Sadly however in 08 I just could not pull the handle for McCain/Palin. Palin perhaps as the primary candidate sure. Though I have various things that I don't like about her, starting with she is a Republican girl herself though and though.

People, the media, and on both sides of the Demo/Rep issue just don't seem to get it. They don't want a third party opening up, because that becomes a two front war each has to fight. The Media's and the democratic political elite sliming the Tea Party is something else to behold as well. They think that by shaming or cries of racism, ignorance and bigotry will shut it down. It is having the opposite effect as all those sources of information, and political power are ignored. Sadly people in general the world over don't bother looking for other information on these rallies than what the MSM has to say.

What is wanted that is ignored by both sides of the elite political fence? And by the MSM?
Representatives that listen to what their constituents want, not to have a Representative tell them "whats good for them and the country" Its our country. Don't tell us what we want. Stop pissing away Trillions of dollars on bail outs, stimulus packages, then look confused when they fail, blame the businesses, then the banks for not lending, then the old stand by, blaming the second Bush. Its a lame excuse when everything you do seems to have a direct worsening in employment, spending and the deficit, Oh Well I inherited this mess. I'm trying.
Guess what, you knew going in to the election for the jobs, you dickweeds what you were walking in to, and if you dident your just plain stupid beyond comprehension. You wanted this mess. You said you had the answers. Except they still haven't listened to what people want.
That's why people are pissed. The only thing growing is the GVT.
And the GVT stopped listening a long time ago.

I am watching the candidates in my area closely. I look at both sides or all people running and vote not along party lines, but who the best candidate for the job is. However it seems that this cycle its going to be more Republican leanings, if not outright completely across the board for who I'm voting for. However I do say this: If the changes that need to happen don't when/if the Republicans take office I'll never vote for one again, and I have a feeling that people in general will not either. If that happens, people will do one of two things. Swing back to the democrats who hope every ones stupid and short sighted enough to not remember this current mess having their prints all over it.. Or a third party or a vast amount of independents are going to spring up.

Shooting time again..

Well I'm once again headed to the range, second time in two weeks. Been a long time since that was managed, but the timing suddenly presented itself and if there is one thing I have learned of recent time, at least the past three to four years, is to take the time if its there. There will always be time to do things later on when the weather turns miserable in say.. November. Not to mention its time to make sure that I have at least two deer rifles sighted in with a good solid load, and practice time with them, in time for the T Zone in October, or at least the main Gun Hunt in November.

*Grumbles* Here is to hoping I get the botched M700 back in time from Gander Mountain so I don't have to rush loads out for it.

One of the blogs I follow, here: http://gunscoffee.blogspot.com/2010/08/first-timers.html pretty much sums it all up perfectly word for word on taking out a new shooter, at least an adult. A year ago I took my best lady friend out shooting with me and she had a blast. I explained how each pistol worked that she shot, and she shot a few of them, starting with my Kimber 1911 with the .22LR conversion on it. Gave her the weapon after having her demonstrate to me she understood the function, and one round in the mag, then stepped it up to full mags and let her shoot on her own terms. While that one was her favorite, she did also enjoy it when I put the .45 slide assembly in to it, and shot that well. She also handled my snub nosed .38 with aplomb.  While she did not shoot more than a couple rounds though my XD .40 she was able to handle it, she just did not enjoy how it felt, and that was fine by me. I have shot pistols well that I did not enjoy myself. Whats more is in a couple weeks or so she will be going out with me again, and I hope to do more of the same, and perhaps let her try her hand at my Sig 229 in 9mm.

I brought out my six year old daughter and my 8 year old son this summer, and hope to do it again with their youth .22. I had to have both of them take a step back form time to time if they forgot something, like keeping the muzzle pointed in the proper direction (The rifle was never out of control, just that they being young let their attention wander just a bit, nothing serious) And they loved it, plus it was time with Dad.

The 1911 platform seems to be one that new shooters pick up instinctivly and shoot it well, though I have seen some 22 revolvers both in single and double action employed well as well as some of the longer barreled .38 specials, four to five inch barrels used to good effect as well.

I know that I was proud as hell with my children and my Lady Friend and their results, infact she still has two of her targets up on her fridge!

One thing though that I would add to that post from Guns & Coffee is this: If your taking a new shooter out, do not pressure them to shoot more than they feel comfertable with and dont bore them to tears, or have them watching you do more shooting than them while they stand idle. As he mentioned, solid ear protection and eye protection is key, as .22's at least tend to toss back burned and unburned powder at times.
Balloons were mentioned too and I have done the same in the past, hell I like shooting the things at 100 yards from hunting positions too. Its even better if you put them on the top of a target backing in some wind so they buck about. If you can pop a head sized balloon at 100 or 150 yards from either standing or a quick kneeling position you can kill a deer.

Reloading..

So I have spent the past few days adjusting loads, researching the one day of shooting I have, Making Mistakes and learning and enjoying myself most of all. I have the final 25 rounds loaded for the 30-06.. Which I have not named.

Carried from my time in the Army for some reason I just feel my weapons should have a name. Some of them I'm still figuring out.

I loaded up the first 15 for the .44 pistol, 30 in three sets of 10 for the AR's, with the focus being right now on the scoped coyote geared rifle. The M4 Style one isn't so picky so I'm betting that If I get a load for the dog gun it will work reasonably well for the M4 battle rifle.

Also, I have some loaded for a .300 Savage, which I think will get the name classy, I have batch number 2 for a 30-30 that I hope I have more success with..

Most of all its been a trial by error sort of thing with me. I'm new at this, learning from books and a bit of Internet information, and just ... doing it.

Its been both a frustrating at times sort of thing but also rewarding and satisfying sort of thing, everything reloading/loading your own ammunition is supposed to be. There is a sense of satisfaction that's addicting to get three rounds key holing each other.

While I don't see myself as a dead on hunter, due to both life circumstances and just plain luck. (Some day Ill knock a buck down that is above 4 points) I do tend to enjoy it. I have not gotten to go hunting since.. 06 at this point so this year I'm looking good for it so far, or at least having a different excuse from finances, or sitting in the sands of Iraq. I would love to knock something down with one of my own rounds, in a gun I have tailored up to me. Or just go out and enjoy things as I can.

Take the food out of your mouth first!

Well called up Remington arms. Not a bad wait, couple minutes or so.
Sadly I had such a difficult time understanding the woman on the phone that I did not receive a good answer on it. She told me I had three repair centers in the state I could take the rifle to. Or perhaps it was take it to Gander Mountain. Or was it Both? I could not understand her around what seemed to be a mouthful of food and coffee.

Gander Mountain however seemed to be much easier. Told to just take it in to the one I bought it at, the one I called. And they would have it on the computer and could look it up. Even better their gunsmith is in Tuesday.

It is a frustrating situation for me. I could fix the weapon myself I suppose. Polish up the feed lips some and see if that helps, or even polish up the feed ramp. Its the matter this is a brand new rifle that I have not even shot yet.

It should not have come out of the factory this way. I would expect something like this on a used firearm. I should not have to do repairs on something unfired. Here is to hoping Gander Mountain repairs it, or replaces the magazine well lining so I can break in the barrel and get rounds loaded.

Damn it Remington Firearms!

So I decided to load up a few 300 WSMs to break in my brand new Remington 700 that I bought last august on my birthday. I finally am able to start the process of reloading and working rounds up. This rifle was bought and never fired. I went back to Iraq for another six months.

Fast forward to now. Try loading up a dummy round. Hmm, thing will not feed. Try a few live rounds. Weapon was on safe, just testing the chambering of the rounds. Hmm. Rounds Two, And three and even Four chamber and feed.. okay. Last round keeps getting hung up on the inside of the magazine well. The thing is so badly finished and rough that it is tearing gouges in the brass and will not load anything if it is the last round.

So I will be calling Remington customer service in the morning to see what they have to say about this and if they are going to fix the issue. Still very annoying  at the least right now. I want to get rounds loaded up and going before the weather turns. I have three different bullet weights to try to get accurate loads for. Needless to say that if they do not take care of this faulty firearm my opinion will dive considerably and I will be forced to correct the issue on my own. As well as writing their cooperate office.

Here is to hoping however.

Slow descent in to reloading should be completed tommrow.

Seems that many years ago now, oh say seven or eight at this point I got in to reloading. But due to a couple tough financial situations, relationship issues and two Army deployments kept me from actually starting.
Finally I bit the bullet so to speak and set up a table, and loaded up some rounds for the 30-30 and the 30-06.

With a bit of cooperation with the weather tomorrow I will get a chance to put the rounds on paper, and maybe, just maybe have a worked up load that is cooperating. If not It still will be a nice warm summer day to shoot, get out in the fresh air and have some fun. I also do have to agree with the common consensus that reloading is enjoyable.
Now it is time to make some bacon and eggs for the little spawns and myself and see about getting the day rolling.

Day One.

Well lets see how this goes. Day one. Watch out world, comments are incoming
